As society becomes more engaged with online subscription services like Netflix, Freesat reminds its viewers of the memorable shows they can find on its platform in a fictionalised convention called ‘TellyFest.’
Created by creative agency Mr. President, the ad sees an eclectic mix of superfans congregate at TV Comic-Con-like convention, dressed as their favourite TV characters, with Big Brother's Marcus Bentley doing the narration.
A fictional bonanza for TV obsessives, Tellyfest is the perfect event to highlight the kind of treats viewers can expect on the subscription-free satellite TV platform, as it showcases the UK’s favourite TV shows and moments over the past decades.
The cheeky TV references slotted amongst the commercial include Rodney from Only Fools and Horses, David Brent and Gareth from The Office and running lifeguards from Baywatch.
Andre Santos, director of marketing at Freesat commented: “Freesat has seen incredible growth since we launched our 'Unbelievably Good' strategy a couple of years ago.
"We worked with Mr. President to build on that platform and drive awareness that people across the UK can get all the telly they love without the monthly subscription fees. We loved the idea of TellyFest as a way to show, and celebrate, the cultural touchpoints that TV brings."
Jon Gledstone, executive creative director and partner at Mr. President, explained: “The UK is a divided place at the moment. But few things bring us together like great telly; we discuss it, relive it and share it. Since Freesat has all of the best telly moments for everyone for free, we envisaged TellyFest as a fictional confab à la Comic-Con where telly superfans come together to celebrate their favourite characters and moments.”
The national TV ad will be exclusive to ITV.
