ANZ Bank and Nike have come together to celebrate Paralympic tennis champion Dylan Alcott who won his fifth Australian Open crown this weekend.
The two brands, alongside ad agency TBWA\Melbourne, have created a special pair of Nike Court Air Zoom shoes to celebrate his efforts in ‘kicking down barriers’.
Speaking after his fifth win this weekend, Alcott talked of his wish to become a mainstream star, despite his disabilities. “I remember when I was 14-years-old, I was lying in bed and all I wanted to do was make it in the mainstream in some way. I wanted to show that people with a disability can be elite at what they do,” Fox Sports reported.
“Dylan is a six-time Grand Slam champion and has been incredibly influential both on and off the court. When ANZ came to us with the idea to customise a player exclusive shoe for Dylan, we were excited to explore what was possible, said Ashley Reade, general manager of Nike Pacific.
Meanwhile, Carolyn Bendall, head of marketing for ANZ Bank Australia, said, “Given his sneaker obsession (500 pairs and counting), we thought it appropriate to celebrate all the barriers that Dylan’s been able to kick down with a pair of custom sneakers and we were thrilled to create these with Nike.”
The shoes were debuted at the event this weekend, with all proceeds from subsequent purchases via an auction of the shoes going to The Dylan Alcott Foundation.
