Artists and volunteers have taken over the city of Bhubaneswar to paint the city’s largest wall murals along a 40km road network to promote the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 which is being hosted in the city.
The murals feature hockey players and the world cup mascot Olly, which is the Olive Ridley Turtle. Odisha’s Gahirmath beach is the world's largest known rookery of Olive Ridley sea turtles.
The murals can be seen across flyovers from Vani Vihra to Jaydev Vihar.
The project is being implemented by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) under its Street Art And Murals Project (STAMP). Artists and organisers include the Bakul Foundation, Gopal Krushna Rath, Satyabhama Majhi, Virtu Communications, Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty, Rashmi Ranjan Jena, Krutika, Mastermind, Brushing Point and Odisha Modern Art Gallery,
The city is also hosting Bhubaneswar Art Trail (BAT) which aims to transform the old town of Bhubaneswar with contemporary art installations.
The art trail which is jointly being organised by Odisha Tourism, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Utsha Foundation will see artists display their art work on buildings , schools, parks, pavements among other things.
The curators include Jagannath Panda, PremjishAchari, and Hannah Barnes, and the trail will have artists like Ramahari Jena, Veejayant Dash, Pratul Dash, Gigi Scaria, Sudarshan Shetty, Sharmila Samant, Arunkumar HG, Markus Baenziger, Cecile Beau, Ramakant Samantaray, SailenRoutray, Smrutikanta Rout, Pratap Jena, Subrat Behera Kumar, Suchismita Mohanty Ram, Niroj Satpathy, Samarjeet Behera, Satyabhama Majhi, architects Sayantan Maitra and Sibananda Bhol, TejaGavankar, ArnikaAhldag, textile designer PankajaSethi among others.
